BUILD 97B — THE ARCHIVE OPENS
A build disappears when the machine holding it finally goes dark. For years, Project 2088 survived as folders, screenshots, experiments and memories scattered across different systems. Build 97B marks the beginning of something more permanent. The game is no longer only being built. Its history is being preserved.
Build 97B has become the first properly preserved and publicly downloadable Project 2088 release. Alongside the build, the Project 2088 website has expanded into a living archive containing development records, world history, visual concepts, Signals, founder dossiers and structured future devlogs. This stage has not been about pretending the project is finished. It has been about building the infrastructure required for Project 2088 to continue openly, honestly and independently.
Build 97B was packaged and uploaded as an official GitHub pre-release.
The website’s Build Archive now links directly to the downloadable game files and includes the complete installation process for Meta Quest.
The installation instructions now explain the required PC-to-headset bridge, including launching Project 2088 from Unknown Sources while the PC installer is still running.
A private Transmission Desk was created for producing future devlogs in a consistent format.
The public Devlog Archive now supports permanent numbered records with their own pages.
Artwork submissions were expanded from three images to ten, with every submitted image remaining grouped under one review record.
The website’s visual archive was expanded with approved artwork for the Three Corporate Founders and the Knight Orders.
GitHub Releases provided a reliable free home for the 928 MB Build 97B archive.
The complete build uploaded successfully and received a SHA-256 checksum for download verification.
The website now directs players to one clear current release instead of leaving the newest build hidden inside a development folder.
The structured Devlog Builder successfully established a repeatable format for recording progress, failures, lessons, lore and future objectives.
The new founder and Knight artwork created a much clearer visual hierarchy between Construct, Anamika, Lockhead and the Independent Orders.
The artwork submission system now accepts between one and ten images and carries those images into the private review system.
The first ten-image submission update changed the visible form but left the server enforcing the old three-image limit. This caused submissions containing four or more images to be rejected.
The hidden validation and review routes were corrected so that images four through ten can now be uploaded, displayed and downloaded properly.
Automatic publishing from the website directly to X remains blocked by X’s paid API requirements. The website can prepare platform-ready copy, but free direct publishing to X still requires manual confirmation.
The complete historical X Devlog Archive is paused while the official account archive is being prepared.
Older Project 2088 builds still need to be inspected, catalogued and preserved individually.
A feature is not complete because the visible interface says it is complete.
The form, server validation, storage system and review dashboard must all agree on the same rules.
Project preservation also needs to be treated as part of development rather than something postponed until the game is finished.
Every build should have a permanent identity, clear installation instructions, a verified download and an honest description of its condition.
The same principle applies to the story. Artwork, lore, builds and devlogs become more valuable when they are connected as records rather than displayed as isolated fragments.
The Three Corporate Founders have been established as a central philosophical structure:
The Architect asks how civilisation can be kept standing.
The Physician asks how the human being can be kept alive.
The Custodian asks how civilisation can be kept protected.
None of them can fully answer what makes a human life worth preserving.
The Knight Orders have also been divided into three founding figures:
The First Founder created an order built around protection, service, judgment and disciplined conscience.
The Construct Founder preserved the Order’s body through hierarchy, obedience and institutional power.
The Pilgrim Founder preserved its conscience by declaring that command cannot cleanse personal sin.
Their division is represented visually through the Construct Knights’ hazard-yellow Double Cross and the Independent Knights’ weathered-white Single Cross.
The Living Timeline of Britana has also been expanded, tracing the discovery of Elysium, the Great Exodus, corporate expansion, the Red November Flu, the collapse of central government, the formation of the Hives and the player’s reconstruction in 2088.
Construct can rebuild the world.
Anamika can rebuild the body.
Lockhead can defend both.
But none of them can manufacture the soul.
erify Build 97B across the complete player journey:
Download the archive.
Extract the build.
Connect a Meta Quest headset.
Run the bridged installation process.
Launch Project 2088 from Unknown Sources.
Record any installation problems and correct the public support instructions.
After verification, begin cataloguing the older preserved builds and define the playable requirements for the next Project 2088 release.
The website’s next development objective is to complete the private review workflow and begin publishing structured Devlogs through the Transmission Desk.
